Puberty is a stage of development of a child into sexual maturity. In girls, puberty occurs in the age range of 10-14 years and in boys, puberty occurs in the age range of 12-16 years.
During puberty, both girls and boys will feel changes in their bodies. These body changes occur due to hormonal changes (one of which is growth hormone) at puberty. In addition to teenagers, parents should also understand the signs of puberty.
Signs of Puberty in Girls
In girls, puberty causes various changes in the body, such as:

At puberty, breast female adolescents will start to grow. Generally occurs at the age of 8-13 years, and starts from the area around the nipple. The possibility of one breast growing earlier than the other breast, so the size can be different between the left and right. This condition is still considered normal. hair The growth of pubic hair and armpit hair is normal and there is no need to worry or feel ashamed. The most important thing is to always keep the body clean, especially in the area of vital organs.
Women have an egg that will become a fetus when fertilized or meet sperm from a man. Each month, the uterus makes a layer of blood and tissue as a place to attach an egg to be fertilized. However, if the egg is not fertilized, it will eventually shed and come out of the vagina in the form of menstrual blood. Menstrual periods generally last about 2-7 days. Recognizing Puberty in Boys
In boys, puberty also brings changes to the body, such as:
- Enlarged testicle size and penis
There is no standard setting for when these changes occur in adolescent boys. An increase in penis size can occur from the age of 9 years or older, although some 15 year olds still don’t experience it. But, don’t worry because this kind of condition is usually still considered normal.
Everyone experiences different physical developments, both age changes and size. Therefore, do not worry about penis size and compare with other people’s penis sizes. If there is a slight difference in size between the testicles, there is also no need to worry, because that is a very important thing
You are advised to check the condition of the penis and testicles regularly after bathing to find out their normal shape. Also to find out whether there are lumps or not in the testicles. - Experiencing wet dreams
During puberty, teenage boys will also experience wet dreams, ie ejaculation that occurs while sleeping. The wet dreams that you experience occur because of an increase in testosterone levels in the body. With age, the intensity of wet dreams will decrease.
- Growing hair in the pubic area and armpits
As well as in adolescent girls, teenage boys will experience the growth of fine hair around the pubic and armpits. Sometimes, the hormonal changes during puberty can make teens prone to body odor.
- Heavier voice An
enlargement of the larynx, the organ where the vocal cords are located, will make a boy’s voice sound heavier. This condition is often known as splitting of the male voice. This is normal, because the body is adapting to the size of the larynx.
This cracking sound will occur for several months, in the age range of 11-15 years. After that, the voice will continue to develop to perfection and usually settles in your early 20s.
After entering puberty, teenage girls are able to get pregnant during the fertile period and teenage boys are able to fertilize. During this period, a teenager will experience an increase in sexual hormones as a natural development of the body.
